PETER & KELSEY | CO-FOUNDERS
Peter Roderick and Kelsey Hickman met in early 2012 and immediately discovered a shared passion for the art of brewing and science of fermentation . They hand craft Nugget’s Raw Kombucha together from many years of combined brewing experience. They passionately source the highest quality ingredients, putting their heart and soul into making Nugget’s Raw the healthiest and tastiest kombucha possible. They also found that they shared something much deeper than simply a passion for the craft…
The foundation for Nugget’s Raw was built on Peter and Kelsey’s shared sentiment:
“We want to help make the world a better place, and we want to uplift the collective consciousness, and the best way we know how is by making great kombucha to benefit the body and mind of as many people as possible”
Behind the scenes the families pullstogether to help out wherever they can. The brewery itself resides on the Roderick’s family land. Additionally, Susan’s green thumb has been huge in the propagation of our flavors that are grown on-site. Rick, affectionately referred to as the “logistics coordinator” has been a big help in making it all happen. Even the oldest member of our family (Peter’s Grandfather) contributed by giving us the recipe for Appalachian Harvest. All this is not even to mention the emotional boost of everyone’s love and support from both sides of the family.
WHAT WE DO:
We use only pure mountain water, fair trade certified organic tea and raw sugar. We ferment using a mother culture passed down through generations right here in the Blue Ridge Mountains, which we believe embodies the spirt of Appalachia and the heritage of our ancestors into the living brew of every batch. We create unique flavors in house, using fresh pressed juices, whole herbs and spices, whole cone hops, even espresso from our local coffee roaster. We put a lot of love and a lot of work into what we do. We get testing done on our finished product by working with world-class food science and enology laboratories so we can ensure the highest possible potency of organic acids and probiotic content. We craft our kombucha to be a powerful, full of flavor and thriving with life.
WHAT WE DO NOT DO:
We never dilute or add excessive flavors. We never reduce our ratio of starter tea to harvest more. We never add organisms not naturally occurring in Kombucha. We never cut ingredients in brewing bigger batches to save money. We never add sugar to our finished product. We do not make a product that is over the alcohol limit and pass it off as non-alcoholic. Though it should go without saying, we never pasteurize. It’s the real deal.
